JHSIR Agents Compete in “Western” Winter Competitions

This past Saturday, February 6, Teton Village and neighboring Snake River Ranch played host to the Powder 8’s Grand Nationals and the North American Skijoring Championship. Jackson Hole Sotheby’s International Realty agents participated in both events: Ethan Valenstein in the Powder 8’s and Christian Cisco in Skijoring.

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort welcomed the return of the Powder 8’s competition this year after a 15-year hiatus in celebration of the resort’s 50th year anniversary. Qualifying teams from across the Rocky Mountain region gathered at the top of Powder 8 face of Cody Bowl just outside the JHMR ski boundary in the hopes of taking home the title for synchronized skiing. After taking 4th in the local qualifier held January 16th, Associate Broker, Ethan Valenstein and his partner placed 11th out of 22 teams in the national competition. Local News 8 caught up with Valenstein after the event, with footage from some of the synchronized skiers. Also participating in the January qualifying event were Jackson Hole Sotheby’s International Realty’s Rob DesLauriers and Christian Cisco and their partners.

Across from Teton Village, the Snake River Ranch hosted the two-day skijoring competition put on by the Jackson Hole Shrine Club. Skijoring is a competition where a horse and a rider pull a skier from a towrope – think waterskiing on snow. Associate Broker, Christian Cisco skied for his team this weekend and was judged on his speed and accuracy as he was pulled through a course of jumps, gates and spear rings. Cisco had a great run on Saturday, placing 4th in the Open Division.

A regular in local competitions, Cisco also placed first in the Teton Valley Skijoring Competition held in Driggs, Idaho on January 23, 2016.
