Jackson Hole Ranked Top Ski Resort, Again

Ranking first once is an honor. Twice rules out a fluke. Three times establishes a pattern, and six times is legendary….

“It’s becoming a bit tyrannical at this point…” might be a bit aggressive of a lead-in from the likes of Forbes, but there is no dancing around it—the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort has been named the #1 ski area in North America for the sixth year in a row as we rapidly approach the kick-off to the 2017 season.

This week has shown the triumphant return of winter to the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem that has both Jackson Hole and Grand Targhee scheduled to open on Thursday, December 1. Between 1AM Sunday and 5AM Tuesday, Jackson Hole’s Rendezvous Bowl reported 24 inches of snow, and Grand Targhee reported 19 inches of snow with additional accumulation forecasted in the mountains prior to the lifts spinning up.

The annual report, authored by Christopher Steiner for Forbes, ranks “The Top 10 Ski Resorts in North America for 2017” based on its unique algorithm with a tongue-in-cheek name—the “Pure Awesomeness Factor.” With a P.A.F. score of 99.0, Jackson Hole continued its reign as #1 via a 2.24 point margin over its nearest-ranked competitor. World-class in bounds and backcountry terrain, a new gondola, and expanded intermediate runs helped Jackson Hole rise above the rest once again. Meanwhile, neighboring Grand Targhee came in at eleventh for 2017 with the designation of being “one of the best places for snow in the world.” Together, there is no better ski destination in North America. The complete list of the best 220 Resorts in North America is available through ranking partner ZRankings.

New within the rankings this year is a feature they’ve dubbed “Powderfares,” which suggests airfares for quick-turn flights from select metro areas for storm chasers with the flexibility to drop everything in the pursuit of face-shots and the untracked. Regardless of how much lead time your trip requires, those looking to capitalize on flights directly into Jackson this winter will appreciate this winter’s 2016/2017 Airline Schedule for the Jackson Hole Airport—featuring direct flights from twelve major-metro areas.
